Armed forces veterans adamant to return medals

A prominent section of the armed forces veterans of the State are adamant on their plans to return their medals on November 16 at Parade Ground here against the Union government's version of One Rank One Pension (OROP).

The Union Government had recently notified the OROP and Manohar Parrikar, the Raksha Mantri (RM), had categorically stated that the Government would not yield more than what is given to ex servicemen on OROP.

The office bearers of The United Front of Ex Servicemen (UFESM) of Uttarakhand met recently and decided that the veterans would return their medals.

The spokesperson of UFESM Uttarakhand, Brigadier K G Behl (Rtd) said that Government version of OROP has put unnecessary five restrictions which simply take away the very basis of the concept which guarantees equal pension to all Defence personnel having same rank and equal length of service irrespective of the date of their retirement. "By imposing these restrictions they are simply trying to create unnecessary problems and trying to dilute demand of OROP", he said.
