The process of appointment of faculty members and other staff in proposed Doon medical College is waiting for newly appointed Principal Dr Pradeep Bharati to join. The beleaguered department is under pressure from various quarters to make necessary preparations before proposed visit of Medical Council of India (MCI) team.

The department had to conduct two rounds of walk in interviews for the coveted post of Principal as two of the candidates selected earlier refused to join. last week the department was successful as the selected candidate Dr Bharati who is Head of Department of Neurosurgery at Medical College Meerut in Uttar Pradesh (UP) has expressed his willingness to join. It is learnt that Dr Bharati was given No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the government of UP but he is yet to get relieving from Meerut medical college.

The officiating Director of Doon medical college, Dr Ashutosh Syana said that department has given a time frame of 15 days to the newly appointed Principal to join. He informed that the department has sent a request for creation of 606 posts for the medical college to the state government.  As per the MCI norms a 150 seat medical college should have at least 65 posts of teaching faculty, 46 posts of resident doctors, 100 posts of paramedical staff and 175 posts of nurses. The new Principal would start the process of appointment of other staff members but it appears that he would run out of time as the team of MCI is expected to visit any time after November. In its last visit the MCI team reprimanded the officials of medical education department on shoddy preparations for the medical college and wasting their precious time.
