Apologise for Assembly's desecration, CM to Opp leader

Expressing outrage over what had  happened on the second day of  the special Assembly session at Gairsain,   Chief Minister Harish Rawat  said on Tuesday that he was feeling ashamed and asked   the leader of the Opposition Ajay Bhatt to apologise for

the desecration of  the   Vidhan Sabha.

“All the  scam charges they  are  howling about are gibberish. BJP harped on 56 scams  in the run-up the Assembly election 2007. They  came to power but not a single person was sent behind bar. Now, they are shouting over  24 scams. This is vulgar politics,”  he said.

“We are  ready for  any debate after the day’s proceedings are over.  We planned  to carry on  the session till November 5. We kept the first two days  for  important business and the   remaining two days were kept for non-government works like debate on several issue like how the State can do better in education, agriculture and health sectors. But they reduced things to rumpus for narrow political ends. On the first day,  they demanded debate on the CD issue and on second  one, they stalled things on Gairsain issue. Their  sole intention was to disrupt the proceedings,” CM added.

Speaking of his government’s roadmap in the realm of education, he said they were determined  to take the light of education to the last village of the State. “We are  set  to set up several universities in the hills, particularly, along the border areas . Himalayan Garhwal University has come up in Pokhra and two more universities are set to open in the hills shortly. Three others would come up  in the border areas. As per the plan envisaged, the upcoming universities will have to enroll the local kids or the children of the government employees for 30 per cent of  the seats. They will have to recruit 50 per cent  of the employees from the local populace for class III and 90 per cent for class IV,” he  said.

Referring to migration from the villages, he said they  have planned home stay schemes to arrest the trend. “Youths will be given loan under Veer Chandra Garhwal Scheme so that they can purchase vehicles to earn living,” CM said.
