The Social Welfare Department officers are learnt to have found out the address of another inmate, native of Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), now living in the Nari Niketan. Her family members would arrive in Dehradun in a day or two. However, whether she would be able to get back home or not is uncertain as she is now being treated at Jolly Grant Hospital.
Her condition is stated to be serious. She was first admitted at Doon Hospital when her condition worsened. As things still are worsening, she was transferred to Jolly Grant Hospital where she is all set to undergo surgeries in stomach. The State Chief Minister Harish Rawat recently announced Rs 2.5 lakh to help her with the surgery.
“She was enrolled in Nari Niketan in November 2015 at the initiative of Doiwala SDM after she was found wandering around,” said Uttarakhand additional secretary (social welfare) Manoj Chandran on Saturday.
He further said that the department officials have recently got in contract with her husband living in Bareilly. He would soon arrive in Dehradun and if things permit he would take her back home, he added.
He further said that to speed things up by way of course correction, the social welfare department has decided to seek help from officers from other States now working here to interact with the inmates.
They have also roped in sign language experts for Nari Niketan to communicate with the inmates to learn details about their antecedents. “language would no longer prove an impediment in communicating with the inmates. Things would be easier for us to send them back home if the situations are congenial,” said a State social welfare department official.
It is further learnt that three more inmates which include two from Bangladesh and one from Burma will also be handed over to their respective family members after their addresses are traced.
The official said that three more who are supposed to be from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka will be similarly sent back in case their addresses are traced. “Now, the officials are working hard to find out their real addresses,” he added.
