Anna Hazare to start protest for strong Jan lokpal Bill again

Anna Hazare will once again stage sit-in protest demanding a strong Jan lokpal Bill. The Jantantra Morcha has formed Jansansad Abhiyan committees to unite the public in support of this effort.

Addressing the media in Dehradun on Sunday, former Madhya Pradesh MlA and Jansansad Abhiyan Samiti coordinator Sunilam said that the public movement launched by Hazare in the past demanding the passing of the Jan lokpal Bill had stirred the Government into action. The Central Government had at that time assured that necessary action would be taken but no proactive action has been taken couple of years since the assurance was given. Due to this, Hazare has decided to stage agitation once again and has already toured six Indian States to seek the support of the public in the movement for a strong ombudsman.

Sunilam said that before starting the agitation, Hazare will conduct a meeting with about 1,000 activists at the Chandrashekhar hall in Delhi on October 5-6. He said that the leakage of papers related to allegations on former Army chief Gen VK Singh amounted to treason and that cases should be lodged against the Army officers and politicians involved in this leak. He criticised the UPA Government for dragging the Army into politics.

Uttarakhand coordinator of the movement, Bhopal Singh Chaudhary claimed that due to pressure from activists, allegations of corruption against the power corporation managing director were investigated and on being found true, he was made to resign overnight though no legal action was taken against him. The Government should take appropriate legal action in this case, he said.
