Gearing up for the mission 2017, the newly-elected president of Mahanagar Mahila Congress Committee Anju Dwivedi initiated the ward-wise member meetings from Monday. To strengthen the party from the booth levels, Dwivedi said she would form ward committees which would work at the booth levels to pave the way of victory of the party in the State Assembly election slated for 2017. She said she would strive hard to have the Haridwar seat reserved for women to give a push to the cause of women empowerment.
Speaking to The Pioneer on Monday, Dwivedi said, “My sole objective after becoming the Mahanagar president of the party’s women cell is to reach the policies of the party to the common man. My top priority is to empower the women and bring them in the mainstream, to help them fight for their rights in family and society. The State party president Kishore Upadhyay and the State women cell president Sarita Arya have reposed their confidence in me. I would leave no stone unturned to rise to the challenge.”
Speaking about her action plan for the Assembly polls in 2017, Dwivedi said, “I have started conducting meetings with the ward members. I have already finished with 12, 13, 16 and 19 wards. Now, I am targeting the northern part of the city, including BHEl. Things are progressing satisfactorily.”
She further said she would fight for Haridwar seat being declared a reserved seat for the women. “I would raise the matter with the party high command and the State party chief. If this happens it would prove to be a positive step towards women empowerment,” she said.
Notably, Dwivedi was the president of City Congress Committee for five years from 2005 to 2010. The party insiders say she had played an instrumental role in Harish Rawat being elected MP from Haridwar by a thumping margin 1.5 lakh votes during 2009 lok Sabha election.
