The agitated staff nurses are not in the mood of withdrawing their ongoing agitation and also threatened to intensify their agitation in the near future in support of their year-long pending demands.
Meantime, all those admitted patients in the Government district hospitals and health centres were among the major sufferers as the agitated staff nurses are boycotting two out of three shifts in the Government establishments. The agitated staff nurses under the banner of Uttarakhand Nurses Services Association (UNSA) gathered at Doon Hospital campus in Dehradun on Friday and shouted anti State Government slogans. They also took out rally in the hospital campus in order to register their protest against the State Government.
The agitated staff nurses have been continuously staging protest since December, 23 and doing only one shift duty out of three duties to register their protest. Meanwhile, the ongoing strike by agitated staff nurses has been causing huge inconvenience to admitted patients in the Government district hospitals and health centres in the Garhwal and Kumaon division of Uttarakhand. It is also to be noted that the staff nurses have been doing one shift duty as per the norms of the MCI (Medical Council of India) which clearly highlighted that one staff nurse should cater the medical need of every five admitted patients in the hospital.
Timely promotion, dress allowance, pay anomaly, risk allowance, six pay commission, appointment of the registrar etc are the few main pending demands of the association. Expressing her concern, Anjana Bhowmick, State president, UNSA said that bilateral talk with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna and State Health Minister Surendra Singh Negi ended without reaching to any fruitful conclusion. She cleared that the agitated staff nurses will withdraw their agitation only when their demands would be fulfilled.
Bhowmick said that intern nurses would not be also allowed to perform their duties in the government establishments in order to register their protest. Echoing same feeling, Krishna Rawat, State General Secretary, UNSA said that memorandum highlighting their demands was submitted many times to top bureaucrats and public representatives but steps are yet to be taken by the State Government to fulfil the year-long pending demands of association. She said that members are in the mood of decisive show this time and will withdraw their agitation once the association’s year long pending demands would be fulfilled by the State Government in the near future.
