Ancestral home of Hemwati to be converted into museum

To convert the ancestral home of freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna into a museum, the Department of Culture Uttarakhand has released Rs 1.92 crore to the Public Works Department (PWD). The Srinagar-based Construction Division of PWD is the designated body which is undertaking this project.

The director, Culture, Beena Bhatt told The Pioneer that the ancestral house of the late leader at Budhani village near Srinagar Pauri Garhwal would be preserved and converted into a museum. She said that all the things associated with Bahuguna like his clothes, works, letters, utensils and furniture at his house would be preserved and showcased properly in the Museum.

The Narayan Dutt Tiwari Government in Uttarakhand had proposed to set up museum as a mark of respect to the great leader at his ancestral village in the year 2006 but the project never started. Vijay Bahuguna, son of the late leader, had handed over the keys of his ancestral house to the State Government then. Interestingly, the fund for the project was allotted by the State Government only during the tenure of Vijay Bahuguna as the Chief Minister which resulted in start of work on the project.
