The 127th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, was celebrated enthusiastically as Social Justice Day across Pauri district on Saturday. The District Magistrate Sushil Kumar along with Pauri MlA Mukesh Koli garlanded the statue of the legendary leader and asked the people, particularly the youths, to follow the lead given by the leader for establishing an egalitarian society , a principle enshrined in the Constitution framed by Ambedkar.
Two different programmes were organised to mark the day in Pauri on Saturday, one by the Pradeshik Silpkar Kalayan Sammiti near the statue of the leader and the other by the district social welfare department. The stalls put up by different departments in the Sanskriti Bhawan premises gave detailed information about the schemes being executed by the Centre and the State Government to ensure welfare of the weaker sections of the society.
DM said that Ambedkar’s greatest gift to the nation is the Constitution. “We can pay true tribute to the legend by developing utmost respect for every provision of the Constitution,” he said.
He also dwelt at length on the welfare schemes being executed by the Centre and the State Government for the uplift of the downtrodden sections of the society. “Our focus is on village uplift. We have lined up several programmes to mark the day through Gram Swaraj Abhiyan which would be observed from April 14 to May 5 in all the gram panchayats and blocks of the district,” he said. He urged all to make the programme a success and to work hard to see that the dream of social justice and rural development as dreamt by Ambedkar is realised in full.
