Uttarakhand continues to take a lead in providing young officers to armed forces of the country for serving the nation.
Thirty- three young men from this small predominately mountainous state would become officers in the Indian Army after the Passing out Parade (PoP) of spring term 2019 on Saturday.
A total of 382 Gentlemen Cadets (GCs) belonging to 144 Regular Course, 127 Technical Graduate Course (TGC) and 27 University Entry Scheme (UES) become proud officers of Indian army on Saturday when they step on the Antim Pag (last step) of the Academy after the Passing out Parade (POP).
Uttar Pradesh with 72 GCs leads the table of state wise representation of GCs. Bihar with a passing out contingent of 46 GCs is at second place while another small state Haryana with 40 officers is at third place in the list of young officers.
The Himalayan State of Uttarakhand is on the fourth place along with Punjab with 33 GCs each. Incidentally in both these states serving the armed forces is a like a tradition in many families.
Maharashtra with 28m Rajasthan with 22 and Himachal Pradesh with 21 GCs are other big contributors in the list.
Incidentally, Madhya Pradesh the second biggest state of India would contribute only 11 GCs in the passing out contingent of officers. Another big state Andhra Pradesh (AP) would be sending only four officers while Tamil Nadu would be represented by only two GCs in the passing out contingent.
The disinterest of the people of Gujarat in serving in the armed forces is clearly evident as this time also as only four GCs are from this state. The states of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand which were created along with Uttarakhand in the year 2000 also has less representation with only three and four GC respectively. Incidentally both these states are much bigger in area and population than Uttarakhand.
The IMA would be sending a batch of 77 Foreign Gentlemen Cadets (FGCs) from friendly foreign countries to become officers in their respective countries after end of training.
