Efforts by all citizens are needed for the conservation of the environment, said chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. Citing the example of a small squirrel also doing its bit in construction of the Ram Setu, he said that similarly even seemingly small efforts are important for environmental conservation. The CM said this at a walking race organised by India Post, Uttarakhand circle, aimed at encouraging tree plantation and environmental conservation.
Rawat said, “Our culture links us to nature. We worship flora, rivers and cattle, which has a scientific base behind it. Today, science too acknowledges the special qualities of the Peepal, banyan, tulsi and the cow. The knowledge handed to us as heritage by our ancestors can be used effectively for conservation of the environment,” he said. The CM pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NITI Aayog had laid stress on water conservation. The State Government is also working in this direction. A watershed area will be developed in each district in addition to the recharging and revival of water sources. Stressing on the importance of trees, he exhorted all to plant trees and conserve water.
The chief post master general of Uttarakhand, colonel Sukhdev Raj, director SK Rai and others were also among those present on the occasion.
