All is well in Sheeshambada plant, says project head Saify

Rejecting all the allegations concerning the anomalies in the Sheeshambada solid waste management and recycling plant, the project head of the plant from Ramky Company, MA Saify said that everything is going well in the plant.

Recently many locals besides MLA of Sahaspur Sahadev Singh Pundir had expressed their concern about the improper management of the plant that included alleged accumulation of generated leachate and heap of indisposed garbage and refuse derived fuel (RDF).

Pundir even visited the municipal commissioner earlier this month to complain about the same and subsequently, the corporation gave the ultimatum to the company to improve the situation in the plant within 30 days, as per Pundir.

However, Saify stated that the leachate is regularly being treated in the leachate treatment plant (LTP) and besides the proper disposal of the garbage, the disposal of RDF is also being done regularly by sending it to the waste to energy plants.

On the question of what action has been taken by the company in response to the notice sent by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), Saify said that it was not a notice but a letter in which the corporation suggested some improvements in the operation of the plant which has already been considered. Saify also informed that the garbage generation has also increased in Unlock 2. He said that earlier, the garbage collected by the sanitation workers was about 250 metric tonnes per day but now it has reached to around 350 metric tonnes every day.

According to him, the garbage generation has increased after the commercial activities were allowed by the administration and it will continue to increase in the next few weeks too.

He informed that the company manages the garbage collection of only 69 wards of Dehradun while the garbage of the remaining 31 wards is supervised by the MCD. He also said that the company is serious about its work and added that to improve the garbage collection facilities in these 69 wards, Ramky Company bought 40 vehicles worth Rs three crore to collect garbage during the lockdown. He further added that  two garbage transfer stations have already been set up in  city and are currently functional and soon  company will set up another new transfer station too.
