Alert issued after 'terror items' recovered in Roorkee

Published on:

Roorkee town being once again in the limelight following recovery of a bag containing uniforms of Punjab police personnel with badges and some other suspicious items, police have appealed to the hotel owners and the house owners  to check the  identities of the persons coming from outside to stay. They warned stern action if the instruction is not complied with.

Police are doubly alert as Urs fair at Piran Kaliyar has started from Thursday.

A section of the police says that some terrorists might have planned to come here using the cops’ uniforms.  Intense checking drive has been launched by the Haridwar police in Roorkee and surrounding areas following the recovery of the police uniform in a bag.

A team of cops has already left for Nabha to verify  the names and badges found on the uniforms.

In the recent Nabha jail break case on November 27, five of the 11 attackers had stormed the high security jail with police uniforms on.

SSP Rajeev Swaroop said, “We are probing the case from all possible angles.

It cannot be ruled out that the suspects wanted to hide in Roorkee and Haridwar since a large number of tourists come here during the season of Urs fair in Piran Kaliyar.”

As a security measure, the police have sounded red alert, asking  the owners of  hotels and dharmshalas not to allow any new guest  without  thoroughly  checking  his identity.   SSP further  said, “We have appealed to the hotel owners, inn managers and land owners to check identity card of any person coming to their premises.

Stern action against the person will be taken if they fail to provide any identification proof during checking drive.”
