Sensible action by a bus driver prevented what could have been a major accident here on Monday.
The brakes of the bus had failed so the bus driver exhibited quick thinking and hit the vehicle onto the hillside which caused the bus to turn over on its side but prevented it from falling straight into the Tehri dam reservoir. According to official sources, 10 persons were injured in this mishap and the injured are being treated at the district
hospital at Bauradi.
On Monday afternoon a TGMOU bus was being driven from Ghansali towards Rishikesh. When the bus was near Tipri, the brakes of the bus failed when it was being driven down a slope.
The driver attempted to apply the brakes but when this failed to have the desired effect, he dashed the bus onto the hillside which caused the bus to fall on its side on the road itself. According to sources, had the driver not done this, the bus would have falled down the road into the Tehri dam reservoir. Such a mishap could have caused much loss of life.
