Detected with severe infection of the thyroid, the leader of the Opposition in the Uttarakhand Assembly, Ajay Bhatt, is likely to remain in Doon hospital for three-four  days more. The BJP leader was admitted to the hospital on Thursday. Bhatt complained of pain in throat and mild fever and visited Doon hospital on Thursday. The doctors treating him advised him to get admitted for checkups and treatment.

The Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of Doon hospital Dr RS Aswal told The Pioneer that the BJP leader was detected with an infection in thyroid gland. He said that Bhatt was given some injections and would be kept under medical observation in the hospital for three to four days. A team of doctors led by senior ENT specialist Dr Rajiv Gupta and Dr Mukesh Sundariyal is keeping a close watch on the condition of BJP leader.

Meanwhile, many party workers and BJP leaders visited Bhatt at the VIP ward of the hospital on Friday. The doctors are of the opinion that since the BJP leader was detected for thyroiditis, he needs to be kept under observation. They informed that normally thyroid was resistant to infections due to high amount of iodine, high vascularity and lymphatic drainage, but sometimes due to acute bacterial infection the gland becomes susceptible. In some acute cases abscess formation in the gland can also take place.
