While expressing his grief over the untimely death of Udham Singh Nagar DM Akshat Gupta, the leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and State BJP president Ajay Bhatt said on Monday that he had died having failed to withstand the huge pressure piled upon him by the Congress-led Government to connive with the corruption running in the district.
“We regret to say that the honest officer died an untimely death because of the pressure put on him from some mighty quarters to acquiesce corrupt practices. He refused to cower before the pressure. The amount of the pressure rose and it adversely impacted his heart. This is very unfortunate,” the BJP leader said.
He further said that they had evidences to prove that the Congress leaders and activists pressured him to declare agricultural lands as non- agricultural lands in Jaspur and Khatima when roads are being built. “The upright officer conducted a probe into the matter. This was why he was transferred from Udham Singh Nagar. He left the place in a huff, leaving the responsibility to another. Depressed as he was he confined himself in his home for three days,” Bhatt said.
He further alleged that Gupta was not the only officer being pressured to indulge in corrupt practices. “I would like to request the administrative and police officers not to cower before pressure and compromise on integrity,” BJP leader said.
