Soon after being caught with the gaffe, the state BJP president Ajay Bhatt changed tack and started showering praise on the Centre for allowing the foreigners to visit Harshil valley in Uttarkashi district that shares its borders with China sans any inner line permit. He also appreciated the Centre’s move to introduce a single window system for the tourists visiting Nelong valley located in the same district. “This is in the acceptance of the long- pending demand of the Uttarakhand people. The foreign tourists coming to the state help the people with an increase in their income. Now, the Centre having removed impediments, the foreigners would come in their hordes, the places known for their unearthly scenic beauty,” he said, adding that his party has been able to gift the state with a new tourist spot in line with what it pledged in its vision document of creating a string of new tourist spots as part of tourism promotion programme.
