The students of the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Rishikesh are on a war path against the administration. Braving heavy rains, the students started a dharna outside the office of Director on Wednesday night. The students alleged chaos in the institution due to a communication gap between the administration and students.

On Thursday afternoon, Director Dr Ravikant met students and assured them to fulfil all their demands. After this assurance the students called off their stir.

It is learnt that the students became furious when the power of the hostel went off in the night. This incident proved to be a trigger which resulted in eruption of anger over many other issues.

The administration of the premier medical institution was in quandary from Wednesday night due to the agitation of the students. The administration even called in the police force to ensure peace in the college.

In order to persuade the angry students the Dean students’ welfare turned up in the night but the protesting students made it clear that they would continue protesting until Director meets them. One student said a fine of Rs 500 is imposed for parking two wheelers outside the hostel despite of the fact that the students have paid hostel fees.

He informed that many unwanted restrictions on girl students have been imposed due to which they are very angry. The girls are also annoyed by the comments by the warden on the type of attire they wear.

Another student said there was utter confusion about the mode and type of question papers in the semester examination which has caused anxiety among the students. He said a state of confusion prevails in the institution and instead of clearing it the administration has adopted a callous and apathetic attitude.
