Agreement with UKRU ruffles feathers of other roadways unions

Published on:

The Government was successful as it managed to break the strike of the URKU on very first day but in the agreement reached with it has ruffled the feathers of the other unions of roadways. Under pressure from URKU the government stalled the process of recruitment on 300 posts of drivers. The URKU is demanding that the drivers working in the roadways on contract should be given preference in the recruitment. The clause that the applicant should be resident of the Uttarakhand and should be registered in the state employment office had irked the URKU and on Friday it was successful in halting the process of recruitment. To add to the problem of government an infuriated Uttarakhand Roadways Sanyukt Parishad (URSP) has threatened to start an agitation if the process of recruitment of drivers is stalled. The General Secretary of URSP, Ramchandra Raturi said that by stalling the process of recruitment of drivers the state government has succumbed to the pressure of URKU which intends to fill these posts by drivers of other state.

He said that URSP would ensure that candidates of Uttarakhand get employed as drivers in state carrier.
