Facing the heat of things, Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who came here on Friday morning to visit the family of rape-cum-murder victim, had the rear window pane of his car smashed at Kathgodam's Shishmahal area when someone from the agitating crowd that gathered around the house of the deceased threw stones targeting the CM's car.
However, the Chief Minister was unhurt as he was sitting in front seat. Some local Congressmen said, Cabinet Minister Yashpal Arya who was sitting in the rear seat of the car in which the Chief Minister was travelling, received minor scratches in the incident.
The convoy of the Chief Minister was found moving past the scene. However, the security personnel deployed to look after the security of the CM arrested some protesters in connection with the incident.
The common people said the incident was not unexpected, given the volume of anger surging in them over the role of the public representatives, the administration and the police.
"No leader worth him name cared to visit the bereaved family members. Nor did they take pains to ensure that the crime is cracked at the earliest and the culprits brought to book," said one of protesters.
Among others, the Bharatiya Yuvo Morcha (BJP youth affiliate) activists were staging protest over the deteriorating law and order situation when the CM's cavalcade passed Shishmahal area. "We wanted to meet the Chief Minister. But we were not allowed," said an angry BJYM activist. However, things were not clear how the incident involving the CM's car happened.
