Not satisfied by the State Cabinet’s decision of constituting service manuals for temporary teacher’s recruitment, the agitated guest teachers took their protest to the residence of Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani on Thursday. These teachers who were camping at the protest site near parade ground for last many days assembled in front of the residence of Naithani on Thursday afternoon and resolved that they would continue to sit there till the Government issues a GO declaring them as ad hoc teachers in the Government schools. When these teachers refused to budge and leave the place despite repeated request of the police men, they were forcibly evicted from the residence of the Minister.
The state president of the association of guest teacher lalit Dangwal said that the guest teachers want nothing short of ad hoc appointment in the government schools. He said that the association would undertake a march to the residence of state chief minister on Friday. Dangwal said that the association has decided to give a time period of five days to the state government to fulfill their demands failing which the agitation would be intensified further. Meanwhile nine guest teachers are sitting on a fast un to death in support of their demand.
The education department deployed 6214 unemployed youths in vacant posts of teacherson contract of one year last year toprovide immediate relief to the students. After end of the contract period on March 31, these teachers started an agitation following which the state government assured them that their services would be extended for another year. These teachers are demanding that the state government should ensure them that their services would be continued beyond March 2017.
The state government was willing to provide extension to the guest teachers but a High Court order thwarted the plan. The association of guest teacher is of the view that the state government should ensure protection of their jobs.
