After poll debacle, Samajwadi Party plans to launch membership drive

In a bid to recover from the crushing poll debacle, the State Samajwadi Party is all set to launch a membership drive across the State.  Informing this to the media persons, SP national spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary who is also a former UP minister said on Saturday that the drive would be intensive. He added that the SP national president Akhilesh Yadav has appointed Kuldeep Singh Rawat as the new state president of the party.

While taking on the criticism of Mulayam Singh Yadav regime having attempted to ruthlessly suppress the demand of a separate Uttarakhand, he said that it was instead the much-maligned  Mulayam Singh Yadav government that proved instrumental in carving out the new state Uttarakhand. “However, the experiences of the people  here 17 years  after the state was formed are bitter, given the abject failure of the successive state governments to meet even  the basic needs like education, employment and health,” he said.

Chaudhary further said that for the next six months, the party will focus on connecting the people with the ideology his party embodies while striving to rope in new members under the membership campaign programme. “A five- member teams comprising Gulfam Ali from Dehradun, Dr Rajendra Parasar from Haridwar, Tajendra Singh from Udham Singh Nagar, Surendra Parihar from Almora and KP Nainwal from Pauri has been constituted and it would execute the membership drive.

We are stressing on involving women and youth in the activities of the party through the drive.

Once the party gains strength through enrolment of new members, we would contest election ranging from the student unions to civic bodies as stepping stones to the bigger contest for the state Assembly,” he said.

State president Kuldeep Singh Rawat said that party will extensively conduct membership campaign across the districts.  “A party think tank would come up soon to give intellectual edge to the programmes the party takes up,” he said.

National working committee member of the party Dr Satyanarayan Sachan who was replaced as the state party chief by Rawat was also present at the press conference.
