After leaving Congress, former MLA to join BJP

Choudhary Yashveer Singh who had bid goodbye to the Congress last week, is now planning to join the Bharatiya Janata Party soon. It is being stated that he is preparing to become a member of the BJP along with his son Gaurav Choudhary. Two-time legislator from Jhabreda constituency, Singh had left Congress on March 18. He had accused the Congress of insulting him while also pointing at purported mismanagement in the party.

His recent meeting with BJP MLA from Khanpur, Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ has fuelled speculation about him joining the BJP. Soon after the meeting, messages about him joining the BJP began to spread through the social media. Speaking to The Pioneer, Singh said that most of his supporters have reached a consensus on his joining the BJP. He would be formally joining the party in the presence of the party’s state president and the chief minister. Singh also confirmed that he had received the proposal to join the BJP from the Khanpur MLA.

Notably the two-time legislator Choudhary Yashveer Singh had contested the assembly election on the Bahujan Samaj Party ticket in the years 2002 and 2007 and his son Gaurav had contested from Manglaur seat in 2012, though he lost the election. Following this, Singh had joined Congress. In the year 2017, he fought as the Congress candidate from the Khanpur constituency but was not able to win the election.

The party insiders are considering this move by the Khanpur MLA from BJP of getting Singh to agree upon joining the BJP as a strategic move since ‘Champion’ himself had elicited some criticism when he had sought the Haridwar parliamentary constituency ticket for his wife while criticising the party MP Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ as a “migratory bird” who came to his constituency only during elections.
