The exit poll projections aired by different television channels just after the completion of the election for the lone Karnprayag seat, generally speaking of a saffron surge in Congress-ruled Uttarakhand, have left the Bharatiya Janata Party euphoric while sending the Congress into a mood of despair. While, buoyed, the State BJP leaders and activists have started preparing the celebration of the ending of their five-year exile from power it was Chief Minister Harish Rawat alone in the Congress camp who still exuded confidence of romping home hours after the exit polls were beamed.
"You had better wait for 30 hours to see what would happen," he said while pressed by the media for comment on the exit poll projection. Among the six channels that aired the exit polls, all of them except the India-TV-C Voters have projected a mandate for the BJP.
The visibly elated state BJP president Ajay Bhatt said the projections were completely in tune with the ones his party had made. "It would be a decisive mandate for our leader Narendra Modi and his style of governance. It would also be a mandate manifesting the people's wrath against the corrupt Congress regime. If the projections come true and we form the next Government we would fulfil all the promises we made during the electioneering," he said.
Meanwhile, bickering has set in in the State Congress camp following the exit poll projections with the faction inimical to the leadership of Harish Rawat readying to bare fangs once the result is announced.
