A large number of retried and serving personnel of Army Education Corps (AEC) attended the 96th Raising Day of AEC on Wednesday. A glittering ceremony to commemorate the day was organised at the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA). The IMA Commandant, lt Gen S K Saini, attended the ceremony and conveyed his best wishes to all ranks and families of the AEC. Speaking on the occasion the Head of the Academic Department, Indian Military Academy and Colonel Commandant, Army Educational Corps, Brigadier, V N Chaturvedi exhorted all ranks of the Corps to re-dedicate themselves to the cause of education in the Army and surmount the challenges lying ahead.

The history of AEC dates back to 1921 when as a direct fallout of the Esher Committee Report submitted by lord Esher on 22 Jul 1920, the Government announced its decision to form the Royal Indian Army Educational Corps (RIAEC), which was raised on 15 Jun 1921. later in 30 April 30, 1946, the then Secretary of States for India approved the formation of “Indian Army Educational Corps” with effect from 01 Jun 1947. The prefix “Indian” was dropped when India became Sovereign Republic on 26 Jan 1950. An Army communiqué  says that in its illustrious history, AEC has carved a niche for itself in diversified spheres like Human Resource Development, Foreign/ Regional language Training, School Administration, Map Craft Training, library Training, Personality Development Training, enhancement of educational qualification of Indian Army soldiers and English language Training for Military personnel from friendly foreign countries.
