The BJP is likely to benefit from fielding its candidates from the five parliamentary constituencies in Uttarakhand as the Congress party is yet to field its candidates from the five parliamentary seats in the State. Since all the BJP candidates have already started their campaigning in their respective constituencies, this is likely to give the BJP candidates an edge over the Congress candidates.
In an exclusive interaction with The Pioneer, BJP State Chief Tirath Singh Rawat claimed that party will emerge victorious in all five parliamentary constituencies in the upcoming General elections. After cornering the UPA-II and Congress-led State Government, Rawat said that electorate will cast their votes in the favour of the NDA as country and State lacked development and the Government has also failed to introduce beneficiary projects and schemes for the upliftment of the weaker section of the society.
Echoing the same feelings, leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Ajay Bhatt said that Congress-led State Government is yet to take effective measures for redressing the grievances of all those who faced the brunt of natural calamities despite the fact more than 10 months have passed since catastrophe struck Uttarakhand. He also lamented that the UPA-II has not taken decision to sanction more funds for carrying rehabilitating work and reconstruction of damaged properties in the mountainous parts of the State.
Despite the fact the BJP has already fielded its candidates on all five parliamentary constituencies, Congress party high command is yet to finalise the list of contesting candidates in the State. Political analysts opined that delay in finalising the names of candidates will surely dent the party in upcoming polls, which is slated to take place in the month of May in the State. It is equally pertinent to mention here is that the BJP has fielded its sitting MP Mala Rajya lakshi Shah in Tehri whereas former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Maj Gen (Retd) BC Khanduri is contesting from Pauri parliamentary seats.
Former Uttarakhand Chief Ministers Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Bhagat Singh Koshyari are contesting elections from Haridwar and Nainital constituencies respectively whereas BJP has fielded Ajay Tamta from Almora. With an aim to emerge victorious, all five contesting candidates from BJP have already started their door-to-door campaigning in their respective constituencies.
