Environment-friendly traditional practices need to be preserved and revived along with other aspects like farming sans toxic chemicals, tree plantation and conservation of the natural sources of water. Chief Minister Harish Rawat administered a Himalaya conservation pledge to the bureaucrats and senior officials on the occasion of Himalaya Day. At a brief programme organised in the secretariat on Friday, Rawat exhorted the bureaucrats to become self-motivated and ‘adopt’ a couple of villages each in the mountainous regions of the State.
Referring to various aspects related to the conservation of Himalaya and the environment, Rawat exhorted the officials to be self-motivated and make necessary efforts to achieve the goal of conservation. The State chief secretary Shatrughna Singh, principal secretaries, secretaries and other senior officials were among those present on the occasion.
later, in an informal conversation with media persons after the brief programme, the Chief Minister said that the sustenance of life in the north Indian region is dependent on the middle Himalaya region. Despite having limited resources at its disposal, the State of Uttarakhand is devoted to fulfilling its responsibility towards the environment of the nation.
He said, “linking it with the traditional Harela festivity, we have undertaken the plantation of trees in the form of a major campaign. The State Government is providing bonus for the plantation of trees and for milk production. Along with this, the State also took the decision to facilitate provision of water bonus to encourage people to adopt the chal-khal (small percolation pits/ponds) system. Even with our limited resources, Uttarakhand is committed to the fulfillment of its responsibility. The nation should also come forward to make the resources available for meeting the requirements of the Uttarakhand State,” added the Chief Minister.
