Admissions for ungergraduate, postgraduate courses in full swing

The admissions in Mahadevi Kanya Pathshala (PG) College for undergraduate and postgraduate courses are on in full swing.

“In keeping with our aim, we will try to accommodate as many girls as possible,” said Indu Singh, Principal of MKP (PG) College. According to the officials, the admissions are open till August 15 for those interested in various under graduate and post graduate courses being conducted here.

The college accepts admissions based on several guidelines provided by the Garhwal Central University. “We accommodate students from diverse cultures. Many girls in our college are from remotest areas of Uttarakhand. Our motive is to weave them together into one culture,” said the college principal. The college management committee which was recently annulled following complaints of irregularities was also allegedly responsible for stagnancy in decisions regarding the development of college premises.

“The time table provided was of the former year. We faced many problems regarding the schedule of our classes. With the change in the management, we at least have the time table for the present year,” says a college student.

The students have many expectations from the principal who was recently reinstated to the post after being removed in the past for alleged financial irregularities. They point out that the college building now boasts of new furniture which has replaced dilapidated desks and the lawns have been mowed. There are also changes in the academic atmosphere of the college. The students complain that the officiating principal who was replaced by Singh, had kept many cultural and debate programmes on hold.

With the return of Singh, the students believe that the college will now go on with its cultural activities apart from the academics. “I am emotionally attached to this college. Progress of this college will be the chief priority for me. Although, the staff has helped me in every possible way, nothing would have worked without the proactive attitude of the students,” said the principal.
