Admission process gets delayed

Published on:

Students’ leaders sitting on stir, delayed admission process in DBS(PG) College and DAV(PG) College, despite Nainital High Court having directed the Government and Government-aided colleges on Friday to start enrolling students in bachelor degree courses on allocated seats on the basis of merit.

However, SGRR(PG) College somehow managed to start the admission process and around 70 students got admission on various bachelor degree courses in the college on Saturday. However, SGRR (PG) College officials expressed apprehension that the admission process would be disrupted if their college student leaders go for stir, taking a cue from those running the protest show in DAV(PG) College and DBS(PG) College. “In case the stir in DAV(PG) College and DBS (PG) College drags on, admission process in our college would suffer delay,” a senior official of SGRR (PG) College said.

In the wake of the High Court’s verdict directing the college to enroll students on allocated seats, a large number of students aspiring for admission reached the DAV(PG) College and DBS(PG) College, but they returned empty- handed as the students’ leaders were found protesting at the college gate. DBS(PG) College Principal OP Kulkshreshtra said that admissions could not have begun in the college on Saturday because leaders of various students’ groups staged stir in the campus. College released merit list for admissions in various bachelor degree courses in the last week of July, but due to students’ protest, admission could not have taken place in the college on Saturday.

In DAV(PG) College too, with the students’ leaders having embarked on the protest spree on Saturday, the possibility of the start of the admission process seems bleak even on Monday. However,

college principal Devendra Bhasin reiterated  that the direction of High Court having cleared the decks, the admission in various bachelor and post-graduate degree courses in the college will be done on approved seats.

SGRR (PG) College Admission Cell in-charge and head of Chemistry department AK Gupta said, “We called a meeting with the students’ leaders and the leaders said that they have no reservation if college starts admission process.” Around 70 students got admission in various bachelor degree courses and the classes will begin with the completion of admissions in the college, he added.
