The functioning of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital, the biggest hospital of the State, is being severely affected by an administrative paralysis. The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital Dr K K Tamta was removed unceremoniously by the State administration on May 29 following the unsavoury episode of one being forced to carry the body of his deceased brother on his back following his failure to manage a vehicle from the hospital.
The administration appointed senior physician Dr K C Pant in his place. However Tamta took the issue to the High Court (HC) and challenged the order.
The court granted reprieve to him and on June 10 ordered the government to reinstate Dr Tamta on the position of Medical Superintendent (MS). However, the order of the court is still to be complied with as Dr Tamta is waiting for the Government order to restore his status as MS. To complicate things further, Dr K C Pant who discharged duties of MS for some days has gone a leave.
When contacted, Dr Tamta told The Pioneer that though he has received email of the order but is waiting for the hard copy of the order to rejoin office of MS. He, however, is doing operations allotted to him in the hospital. It is learnt that Dr Tamta would assume the charge of MS in a few days.
In absence of any authority the work of the biggest hospital of the State has taken a beating. To add to the problems the Principal of the college Dr Pradip Bharati Gupta has also gone on a long leave. The members of the hospital staff admit in private that no administrative work whatsoever is happening in the hospital. “ Many works like clearance of bills are hindered.
There appears no authority in the hospital. The doctors and other staff members are working without any directions. A situation of chaos prevails in the hospital which is very unfortunate,’’ said one staff member.
