As unannounced inspection and raids are going on at the behest of the district administration across the district, particularly Haridwar, Roorkee, Jhabreda and laksar, against the quacks treating people while posing themselves as certified doctors, 35 such clinics run by the quacks in Roorkee and three others elsewhere in the district have been sealed in the past few days.
The raids are being conducted by teams with SDMs Kaustubh Mishra and Manish Singh and Tehsildar Sunaina Rana in the lead. Speaking of the matter, SDM Kaustubh Mishra said, “We have given notice to the clinics for violating the norms and dispensing allopathic medicines without having the mandatory medical background. We have found that injections are being administered to the patients at such clinics in the wrong way which can prove dangerous for them. We have sealed such clinics and given them a time within which they would have to send to us the necessary documents along with reports. If they fail or the documents are found unsatisfactory stern action would be taken against those who are running such clinics.”
It is learnt that most of the clinics thus raided have been running sans registration and licenses required for running clinics. It is further learnt that many of the doctors treating patients while posing as certified medical practitioners have failed to produce even high school passing certificates. “While the State-run hospitals are reeling under acute scarcity of anaesthetists the doctors at such clinics are administering anaesthesia to the patients with impunity without holding license for that,” said a Government officer who was part of the team that made the raids.
As the news of the team inspecting clinics reached many persons who run them as doctors fled their clinics to evade questioning by the team members.
The Government officers said that such raids would continue relentlessly till the menace is stamped out.
