The district administration has directed that timings of shops in the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology campus be regulated to maintain law and order in view of the recent incident that saw a mentally affected person destroying idols of gods and goddesses in a temple on the campus.
It will be recalled that about a week ago, a mentally affected person belonging to the minority community had broken idols of various gods and goddess in the temple which had resulted in increasing tension in the town.
However, barring a few cases of arson by mischievous elements, the situation did not escalate out of hand.
The Udham Singh Nagar district administration has now issued guidelines to the university administration. The GBPUAT administration has directed that the Haat set on campus every Thursday and Sunday will be held from 12 pm to 6 pm while all shops in the campus and colony will be closed by 8 PM.
In case of emergency only chemists can open shop as required. The university has also started taking action for evicting encroachers from campus, verification of those staying on campus, issuance of new identity cards, closure of unauthorised temporary entry gates and construction of boundary wall to prevent unauthorised entry in the campus.
Those encroaching on campus have been told to demolish their illegal constructions and evict campus failing which the constructions will be
demolished after 10 days.
