In a sad commentary on how police are functioning in Uttarakhand where crimes are spiraling, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Ashok Kumar did not inspect the mounted police as scheduled on Monday because he had not donned police uniform. Moreover, he reached the venue (police line) around an hour late.

Reporters were informed that ADGP Kumar would inspect the mounted police at 3 pm on Monday. Mounted police readied in tows, senior police officers, including SSP STF Sadanand Date, SP rural ASP Manikant Mishra, CO Pramod Kumar and inspectors and sub-inspectors reached the venue at 3 pm. However, Kumar turned up around 4 pm.

Without inspecting the horses, he reviewed things regarding mounted police squad with its in-charges. He was informed about shortcomings the squad is reeling under like shortage of horses and post of cops lying vacant.  However, stunning all present, he said he was postponing the formal inspection till Tuesday. He then placidly said this was because he had not put on the uniform. “It would not look nice for me inspecting sans uniform,” he said.
