City Patrol Unit personnel based in Dehradun and Haridwar districts have been directed to check street crimes like chain snatching, vehicle thefts and others with a heavy hand apart from doing their assigned works of traffic management. State additional Director General of Police (law and order) Ashok Kumar said this after a meeting on crime was held at Garhwal range office on Friday.
Kumar said that a two- month-long drive has been started from November 1 to book the hardcore criminals under Gunda Act and Gangster Act. He laid stress on resending those to jail who continue to commit crimes after they come out of the jails on bail.
He said that steps are being taken at district and range levels to nab the criminals carrying bounty and the absconders. Besides, he laid emphasis on solving the cyber crimes on a priority basis.
While sounding concerned over burglaries on the spiral in Haridwar and Dehradun districts, he said that verification drives of tenants, servants and the migrants must be carried on by police. Uttarakhand Police Mobile App can be used during such drives, Kumar said.
Among those present a the meeting were Garhwal Range DIG and the district police chiefs of Dehradun, Haridwar, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Tehri and Pauri districts.
