Following the explosion outside the DAV College in Roorkee in Uttarakhand at around 1 pm on Saturday that left a child dead, the State Government stopped meetings and rallies lined up by various organisations, including Vishwa Hindu Parishad, in commemoration of the Babri Masjid demolition, in Haridwar district.
State DGP BS Sidhu said that by way of precaution, a high alert was sounded and additional police forces were deployed at many places, particularly at the sensitive ones like the busy market areas and the religious sites, to maintain order in Haridwar district, in particular, and the State, in general. DGP denied that the incident had anything to do with the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary. Nobody has planted it intentionally. It was just a coincidence that the explosion occurred the day the Masjid was demolished, DGP added.
