Action will be taken against people re-encroaching: SSP

On the third day of 15-day anti-encroachment drive conducted by Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Tuesday, the focus area was from Dispensary Road to Paltan Bazaar. Parallel to this drive MCD is also issuing challans on polythene use. Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Mohan Joshi has also said that legal action will be taken against those who are found re-encroaching repeatedly.

On Tuesday, from Paltan Bazaar the team went towards Moti Bazaar and then towards Sabzi Mandi.

The Dehradun municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “We have started the anti-encroachment drive again and we are getting support from police department as well. The basic problem is that many shopkeepers permit road side vendors to set up their stalls in front of their shops.

We have started taking strict measures against such shopkeepers too. So far, products of 254 unauthorised vendors were seized. This is a 15-day drive and local police has been informed about it.”

Meanwhile, SSP Joshi said, “After the anti-encroachment drive we will be keeping a check on those who are re-encroaching in the areas.

It is not possible for us to permanently deploy constables there, as we have to look after law and order and traffic management in the city as well. However, to strictly enforce this we have decided to take legal action against people who are repeatedly involved in encroachments.”
