The mud from the forest reserve area is being continuously lifted by the poachers alleged a city based non- profit organisation, People for Animals. The organisation has approached IG Garhwal to inspect the area and the office of the IG has sent a letter to the Haridwar police demanding action in the matter.
In a letter addressed to IG Garhwal range, Aditya Sharma of Peoples for Animals organization had said that illegally tons of mud has been lifted from Shyampur range of Haridwar forest division to repair the ganga canal.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Aditya said, “At the back of Shyampur petrol pump, part of the eastern ganga canal had got damaged last year. To repair the same, the range officer of the area connived with mafia people to engage JCB machines for cutting the hills and removing the mud by uprooting the trees from the forest reserve.” This had destroyed the nests of the birds and the biodiversity of the region since many trees are on the verge of getting wilted.
Aditya further alleged that earlier also it had been brought to notice of the forest range officers that mud is being lifted from the park area illegally. Complaint was made to the park director and wildlife conservator but no action has been taken by the park authorities. In response to the complaint, IG Sanjay Gunjyal issued a letter to the SSP of Haridwar to inspect and review the matter and take stringent action against the miscreants.
