Angered over his failure to secure ticket in students’ union election at DAV (PG) College, Sanjay Tomar, an AVBP leader, is likely to contest the election for the post of president as an independent. Frustrated over the name of another ABVP leader being announced as the outfit’s candidate, the students supporting Tomar went on the rampage, breaking furniture at the ABVP office in the college on Friday evening. Moreover, scores of Sanjay Tomar supporters rallied in the college campus on Saturday and appealed to the students to vote for him on Saturday.
A senior ABVP leader Ashish Rawat admitted that Tomar and his supporters were disappointed after the name of Rahul Kumar was announced as the candidate. “We would persuade Tomar not to do anything that would mar the prospects of ABVP in the election. We are sure things would be sorted out amicably soon,” he said.
Now things are clear as to why ABVP took a long time in announcing the name of its candidate for the post of the president in the election of the college, say the observers.
The situation in NSUI has been the same. NSUI members are supposed to be divided in three groups. However, braving the factional problem gnawing at the outfit from within, NSUI declared Ayush Gupta as its candidate for the post of the president. Observers say that NSUI has been losing the election for the post of the union president to its archrival ABVP for some years because of the factor of dissidence, set deep into it. The main rivals locked in factional bickering have made the contest an interesting one, say the observers. Things moving fast to the climax with the election slated on September 2, the college is buzzing with the election-related activities.
Supporters of various student groups are taking out rallies while appealing to the students to vote for their candidates in the election.
