ABKM against move to make Bindukhatta a municipality

In opposition of State Government declaring Bindukhatta a municipality and appointment of an administrator here, the indefinite period hunger strike under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Mahasabha (ABKM) entered its second day at the Tehsil compound on Thursday.

The protesters alleged that the State Government and local MlA had not kept their promise to the people. Supporting the agitation, Communist Party of India (Marxist leninist) State secretary Rajendra Pratholi alleged that a nation-wide campaign is being run to usurp the lands of farmers.

“On the one hand the Congress is pretending to favour the farmers by opposing the Central Government’s land Acquisition Bill while on the other hand, the Congress-led Government in Uttarakhand is working on the directions of the land mafia to make Bindukhatta a municipality. This is a conspiracy to dispossess the poor of their lands in the area. The State Government will have to take back its decision to make this area a municipality,” he stressed.

ABKM national secretary Purushottam Sharma alleged that the State Government’s decision is aimed at usurping the lands of farmers in Bindukhatta.
