ABBEP demands ban on movie release

Akhil Bharatiya Brahman Ekta Parishad (ABBEP) has demanded a ban on the release of the Hindi movie ‘Article 15’ in the state of Uttarakhand on the grounds that it maligns the image of upper castes especially the Brahmins.

They submitted a memorandum addressed the governor to the city magistrate on Wednesday. The film slated to be released on June 28 is about an upright police officer’s crusade against violent caste-based crimes and discrimination.    The state coordinator of the ABBEP Balkrishna Shastri said that if the film is released in the state, there will be wide scale protests. He said, “The movie makers claim that it is based on a real life incident of two girls being raped and murdered in a village of Uttar Pradesh in 2014.

However, both the victims and culprits were from OBC, so how did Brahmins come into the picture?” Speaking to this correspondent, Pandit Rameshwar Gaur said, “Earlier films were made to give some message on the evils of society, but these days, the themes are lost. These days films are being made which divide the people in the society.” “We have demanded that the film due to be released on 28th of June should not be released in any part of Uttarakhand State.

If it is released strong protests shall be held at all the cinema halls where it is screened,” said Shastri.
