The workers of Aam Aadami Party (AAP) organised a sit in before the office of Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) on Wednesday and protested against prevailing corruption in the corporation. The party workers started a march towards the head office of UPCl from the Anurag Gas agency and held a vehement protest meet outside the office.
Addressing the party workers, the President of the State working committee, Anoop Nautiyal said that the UPCl holds the dubious distinction of being the most corrupt department of Uttarakhand. He alleged that due to this wide spread corruption the people are forced to pay higher tariff for power in the State.
Nautiyal said that complaints of tempering of meters are common due to which the customers are forced to pay arbitrary and inflated bills. The AAP leader claimed that a massive agitation would be launched in coming days against the power corporation.
He demanded that the Managing Director (MD) of UPCl, SS Yadav and Chief General Manager SN Sinha should immediately be removed from their positions. During the Dharna the AAP workers were invited for talks by the senior officers of the UPCl but they refused the offer and insisted that MD Yadav should come out to meet them. However, Yadav didn’t turned up at the site of agitation.
The AAP leaders Ranbir Chaudhary, Shyam Babu Pandey and Ajay Sharma also addressed the workers. The protest was attended by Saroj Pandey, Somesh Budakoti, Dinesh Badola, Uma Sisodiya, Poonam Bhalla, Upma Agarwal, Abhishek Bahuguna, Vijay Tomar, Sarita Giri, Ashvini Pandey and others.
