AAP workers stage protest against graft, autocracy

Aam Aadmi Party activists gheraoed the Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday accusing the State Government of failure to check rampant corruption in the Government departments and the autocracy of bureaucrats, among others.

The AAP members said that they had taken out Dridh Sankalp Yatra from old bus station to Vidhan Sabha to mark the party’s foundation day. Their mission is to free Uttarakhand from the canker of corruption, they said.

Dozens of AAP members assembled at old bus terminus (protest site) and rallied up to Vidhan Sabha while shouting anti-Government slogans. Police followed the rally till they reached the police barricade outside the Rispana Bridge.

One of the AAP members was seen helping policemen resolve the traffic congestions at a crossing when the rally was on. The protesters were stopped outside the barricade at Rispana Bridge.

They carried on with their demonstration from there. The demands the AAP raised include publication of Tripathi Commission’s report on corruption and probes into the murky appointment of SS Yadav as general manager, Power Corporation, Uttarakhand, and also into the alleged irregularity over purchasing of power transformer by Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand limited (PTCUl).

Besides, they demanded probes should be conducted into scams involving the bureaucrats and the politicians and misappropriation of public funds.

The State Government should formulate a plan to provide the graduates and diploma degree holders with Government jobs with the number of the unemployed rising alarmingly.

The party demanded the State Government to firm up a policy to ensure women’s security. Apart from this, the government should come out with a labour policy as the labourers and the workers are being exploited by the industrial units located at Sahaspur and Selaqui in Dehradun and some other places in the State.

The Government should set up an enquiry into the scams involving the widening of 16 crossings and new modern bus stations as well as into illegal felling of trees.

A transparent enquiry should be ordered into the scam worth crores of rupees involving Public Works Department. Among dozens of APP activists present were DP Atri, BS Dhanola, Israr Khan, Somesh, Shyam, Dinesh, Uma, Upma, Puja, Sunita and Rajesh.
