AAP targets State Govt over delay in appointment of lokayukta, CIC

Published on:

AAP leader Anoop Nautiyal has said that the State Government is not serious on the issue of corruption as it

has not appointed a lokayukta and Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) in

the State.

Addressing the media in front of lokayukta office in Patelnagar here on Monday the AAP leader said that the fact that the post of lakayukta is vacant from last 27 months and the post of CIC is unoccupied for 10 months reflect that the State Government’s intent is clouded.

He said that State Government has convened only two meetings, one on May 12, 2014 and other on January 2016 on the issue. Nautiyal said that the second meeting was fallout of the severe reprimand of Uttar Pradesh Government by the Supreme Court on the issue of lokayukta. The AAP leader said that the State Government’s contention that it would appoint one member lokayukta as it is short of funds is ridiculous keeping in mind that it is spending about `1 Crore annually on the office of lokayukta alone.

Nautiyal said that 44 MlAs of the State Assembly are yet to submit details of their assets. He further alleged that a RTI application reveals that the more than 600 cases of corruption are pending in the state at various levels. Nautiyal said that `1500 crore disaster scam and tea

estate scam are staring in

the face of State Government but no action is being taken on them. He claimed that the Uttarakhand has dubious distinction of being

first among 29 States in

corruption.
