The Aam Aadami Party (AAP) activists organised a protest meeting on Sunday and strongly condemned attack on advocate P C Tiwari, who was spearheading an agitation against handing over of agriculture land to Jindal group at Nainisar in Almora district, by alleged land mafia.

large number of activists gathered at the protest site on the day and demonstrated against the State Government. Addressing the protesters, AAP leader Anoop Nautiyal blasted the State Government for protecting the land mafia and oppressing those who raise their voice against them.

He said that land worth crores of rupees in Nainisar was handed over to the Jindal group without taking the villagers into confidence. Nautiyal said that 200 trees of litchis were axed by the land mafia and when the protest was raised by advocate Tiwari, he was brutally assaulted.

He said that this government has wrong intentions and to grab large land pieces of Tea estate and Pokhra in Pauri district are now on its priority. The AAP leader raised question on the intention of Government and asked it whether rehabilitation of disaster affected people is on its priority or it is more interested to help industrial houses.

He said that the people of the State would get no benefit by private school set up by the Jindal group at Nainsar and handing over land in Pokhra to an industrial house; similarly the smart city project planned on the land of tea estate is of no use for the people of the state. AAP leaders Onkar Bhatia, Rajesh Bahuguna, Kamal Devradi, Pooja Bhalla and others also spoke on the occasion.

The AAP has also decided to hold a demonstration at State secretariat on the alleged smart city scam on Monday.
