Aadhaar enrolments have begun at different places in Dehradun but in the last few days around 60 per cent people reached three-daylong camp being organised by the department concerned in the city.

Some enumerators deployed for distributing Know Your Residence (KYR) forms for Aadhaar enrolments said that some residents do not know about their neighbour while some do not cooperate with them for completing this work.

In training, they were told that Gram Pradhan or ward councillor would co-operate for this work but reality is different. With the start of Aadhaar enrolments in the district, Government and private sector officials were seen discussing aspects of this task with their colleagues. Some residents of ward number two reached the Government Primary School, Kandoli, Raipur and asked the officials when they could enrol for Aadhaar card.

Aadhaar enrolment for wards 14, 15 and 17 was started on August 20. Official told them that their enrolment will be done between August 26 and 28.

Savita Rani, enumerator, ward number 14 said that around 60 persons of ward numbers 14, 15 and 17 had turned up to enrol for the Aadhaar card in the three-day camp which concluded on Friday.

Rani said that she visited homes between August 16-19 and distributed KYR forms. Residents were told to reach GPS Kandoli on August 20, 22 and 23 for enrolment. She made several rounds of the assigned ward but around 60 per cent people turned up for enrolment.

Residents are also informed that Aadhaar card it is a unique identification card for each citizen which can be used for procuring lPG cylinders, BPl cards, SIM cards, MGNREGS cards and others. Through Aadhaar card, they may get benefit from Government sponsored schemes later on.

The residents would get 12 digits Aadhaar card number if they enroled for Aadhaar card at the camp. Camp is organised between 10 am and 5 pm for three days. Rani further said that in her ward, some residents had sold their land while some had gone out of station. Some locals refused to accept KYR forms when they were told to give this form to their neighbours who were not at home.

Directorate of Census Operations, Uttarakhand director in-charge Dashrath Singh said that residents should co-operate with enumerators to complete this work.

The enrolment for Aadhaar Card has been started in Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat and Bageshwar districts.
