Aadhaar card work still slow in Nainital

Published on:

The Aadhaar card preparation exercise has been going at a snail’s pace across Nainital district to the annoyance of the people. Role of Nainital district administration remains restricted to just asking the Aadhar card preparing agencies to expedite the process and this is further delaying matters. “After I applied for an Aadhaar card in December last year, the agency at Haldwani gave me a serial number, saying that I would be called when my turn would come. However, about two months have passed since then and I am yet to get any call from them,” said Praveen Singh, a native of Haldwani.

Given the long queues found outside the agency offices and the constricted role of Nainital district administration, it is difficult to say when his turn would come, regretted Singh. However, Deepak Rawat, District Magistrate, Nainital, having issued an order, asking the respective SDMs to ensure preparation of Aadhaar card properly and promptly in coordination with the agencies has raised hope of things turning better.

The DM has also asked the officials concerned to register FIR in case the agencies charge the people for preparing such cards. The volume of applications having reached ‘unmanageable’ proportions, some of the agencies are refusing now to accept new forms, adding to the woes of the people. The  Aadhaar card preparation exercise started in Nainital in July last. Notably, the Government has made use of  the Aadhaar card compulsory for officials works  and for availing different popular schemes from this year.
