A little more wait for lED lights in Haridwar

Published on:

Residents of Haridwar would have to wait a little more for the energy saving lED lights to illuminate the city roads. Inventory of lED  lights have been done and lights have arrived in the Nagar Nigam store. Testing report is now awaited. Few days ago, Nagar Nigam received amount Rs96  lakhs from the State Government under the current five year plan. A part of it is being spent on installing the lights.

After CFl and lED lights were received, CFls are being fitted on the street light holders over the past three /four days. It is pertinent to mention that there are thirty wards with a population of around 2,14,000, in the city. There are around 12,000 posts of street lights under the charge of Nagar Nigam Haridwar. However, 25 to 30 percent of such lights have remained defunct over the  past three months and more.

Nagar Nigam administration has sent samples of such lights for third party testing to a Pune- based laboratory. The technical specification and quality testing will be done there. Once the reports are received and if the report is positive, the lights would be installed.

Mukhya Nagar Adhikari Ms Vipra Trivedi said that they are awaiting the third party testing report. She added that in a week or two , the process of illuminating roads would be completed. Notably, BJP activists and several sabhasads gehraoed MNA last week, protesting against  the crumbling street light system in the town.
