Notably, STF Uttarakhand which was formed in 2006 is meant to gather information about mafia gangs, to prepare action plans and their execution against disruptive elements, take on organised crimes like robberies with the involvement of the inter-district gangs and the like.
One inspector, three sub-inspectors and around 20 constables have been deputed in both the units of STF which include one inspector, two sub-inspectors and 14 constables for its Dehradun unit while one sub-inspector and six constables have been deputed for the Pantnagar (Udham Singh Nagar) unit of STF. Police sources regret that with the work load involving arrest of wanted criminals, bounty criminals and drug peddlers increasing, the number of STF posts is not increasing proportionately.
