Dehradun police arrested Mahi Daniel, the step- mother of the seven- year- old girl, who was allegedly murdered by her father Victor Thomas alias Daniel on Sunday night. She was produced in the court on Wednesday and sent to Suddhowala jail, police said, adding that as per the post-mortem report , the girl had died of profuse bleeding. An injury was found on her neck too, a police officer probing the case said.
Acting on the complaint lodged, a case under sections 320/201/120b of IPC had been earlier registered against the accused Victor Thomas and his wife Mahi Daniel in the Raipur police station.
Police on Monday had questioned Mahi about the incident but she had not disclosed anything regarding the murder, police said.
“We suspect that she helped her husband to lace the girl’s food with sedatives,” said sub-inspector Manoj Rawat who is investigating the case, adding that though she was not directly involved in the murder she was a part of the conspiracy. “She did not inform the police after the murder was committed. We suspect she lent her husband help in concealing the body too,” he added.
The main accused Victor Thomas had been sent to Suddhowala Jail after being produced in the court on Tuesday. Sources said that Victor
Thomas had married Shivani, the mother of the murdered girl, and later Mahi.
