7 members boycott civic board meeting

Seven out of the eleven Pauri Municipal Board members boycotted the municipal board meeting convened by the president of the board, Yashpal Benam, on Saturday. They also informed the District Magistrate in writing as to why they had boycotted the meeting.

The written statement was signed by seven dissenters—Roshani Dhanoshi, Neelam Rawat, Manoj Negi, Arvind Rawat, Anoop Negi, Deepak Rawat and Vinod Bisht.

They stated that they had earlier boycotted the municipal board meeting on November 22 after raising objection to four construction works continuing as per the tender published on November 17 sans the approval of the board members.

After the board meeting was aborted on November 22, the members demanded in writing that all the four construction works should be stopped. The written objection was served to the executive officer, Municipal Council twice.

But throwing all norms to the winds, the municipal board president had called the board meeting arbitrarily on Saturday. There was, thus, no other option for them but to stay away from the board meeting by way of protest, the dissenters said in writing.

The memorandum was served to Director Urban Development Department, Uttarakhand Government and Garhwal Commissioner too aside from the District Magistrate, it is learnt.
